1. Santa Barbara (1959)
|Del Mar - 1959|
The Del Mar race is a two day event. The raceway itself is set on a 1.6 mile, 11 turn temporary circuit located
within the Del Mar Fairgrounds, in California.|
Steve raced his 1600 Super Porsche there in 1959, winning the event.
On another occasion at Del Mar in 1959, this time racing a Lotus, he did not fare so well, as he explained to writer William Nolan: "I was leading with the Lotus when I accidentally hit this switch on the dash which cut my power. It was an emergency fuel switch for changing tanks. As a result, the car just died on me. I was embarrassed about that, but I was still learning. Each time you race you learn more."
